Let’s be honest, we’ve all experienced falling in love with a piece of clothing while out shopping and once you try it on, the disappointment sinks in. Rather than looking vibrant and bright, you look washed out. But as you browse through hundreds of shades of colors as you shop, how can you know which colors will suit you best? That’s where Seasonal Color Analysis can help. In this method, each season is given a color palette. The analysis itself takes into consideration, your natural hair and eye color and the undertones of your skin. Depending on those features you’re assigned a seasonal color palette. If the analysis is done correctly, the colors in the palette assigned to your season will be the best for you! So how do you know which season you are? It all depends on your undertones and if your overall features tend to be more light or deep. We’ve developed a short guide to help you determine which season you are. Step 1: Undertones The first step in determining which seasons’ color palette will suit you best is to determine if your features, specifically; your skin, hair and eyes, have warm or cool undertones. There are a couple ways to do this. Interestingly enough, the veins in your arms is one way that can help you determine your undertones. Look at your wrists. Are your veins purple or blue? Then you’re cool toned. Are they green or greenish-blue? Then you’re warm toned. Another way to determine your undertones is to hold your arm up to a white sheet of paper. As you hold the paper behind your arm, look to see if your arm looks yellow or green, or if it appears to be red or blue. Yellow and green signify a warm undertone, while red and blue signify cool. You can also use your natural hair and eye color to distinguish your season. People who have ashy colored hair and light colored eyes tend to be cool toned, while people with darker hair with red undertones, and darker colored eyes are warm toned. Step 2: Are your features lighter or deeper? The seasons are broken up by warm and cool tones, but also by light and deep colors. Therefore, you’ll need to determine if light or deep colors suit you better. This is typically identified using your overall color, but specifically looking at your natural hair color. Once you’ve determined if your overall color is deep or light – we can dive into which season (and colors!) suit you best. Step 3: Which Season Are You? Now you know your undertones and how light or dark your overall coloring is. It’s time to use that to determine your season! You’re a Winter if: Your undertones are cool, and your overall coloring is darker. You’re a Summer if: Your undertones are cool, and your overall coloring is lighter. You’re an Autumn if: Your undertones are warm, and your overall coloring is darker. You’re a Spring if: Your undertones are warm, and your overall coloring is lighter. Step 4: The Color Palettes Now that you know your season, you can dive into the colors recommended for each and add to your wardrobe accordingly! I’ve always thought of my season as “Road Construction.” What color palette do you recommend for that?
