Let’s be honest, we’ve all experienced falling in love with a piece of clothing while out shopping and once you try it on, the disappointment sinks in. Rather than looking vibrant and bright, you look washed out. But as you browse through hundreds of shades of colors as you shop, how can you know which colors will suit you best? That’s where Seasonal Color Analysis can help. In this method, each season is given a color palette. The analysis itself takes into consideration, your natural hair and eye color and the undertones of your skin. Depending on those features you’re assigned a seasonal color palette. If the analysis is done correctly, the colors in the palette assigned to your season will be the best for you! So how do you know which season you are? It all depends on your undertones and if your overall features tend to be more light or deep. We’ve developed a short guide to help you determine which season you are. Step 1: Undertones The first step in determining which seasons’ color palette will suit you best is to determine if your features, specifically; your skin, hair and eyes, have warm or cool undertones. There are a couple ways to do this. Interestingly enough, the veins in your arms is one way that can help you determine your undertones. Look at your wrists. Are your veins purple or blue? Then you’re cool toned. Are they green or greenish-blue? Then you’re warm toned. Another way to determine your undertones is to hold your arm up to a white sheet of paper. As you hold the paper behind your arm, look to see if your arm looks yellow or green, or if it appears to be red or blue. Yellow and green signify a warm undertone, while red and blue signify cool. You can also use your natural hair and eye color to distinguish your season. People who have ashy colored hair and light colored eyes tend to be cool toned, while people with darker hair with red undertones, and darker colored eyes are warm toned. Step 2: Are your features lighter or deeper? The seasons are broken up by warm and cool tones, but also by light and deep colors. Therefore, you’ll need to determine if light or deep colors suit you better. This is typically identified using your overall color, but specifically looking at your natural hair color. Once you’ve determined if your overall color is deep or light – we can dive into which season (and colors!) suit you best. Step 3: Which Season Are You? Now you know your undertones and how light or dark your overall coloring is. It’s time to use that to determine your season! You’re a Winter if: Your undertones are cool, and your overall coloring is darker. You’re a Summer if: Your undertones are cool, and your overall coloring is lighter. You’re an Autumn if: Your undertones are warm, and your overall coloring is darker. You’re a Spring if: Your undertones are warm, and your overall coloring is lighter. Step 4: The Color Palettes Now that you know your season, you can dive into the colors recommended for each and add to your wardrobe accordingly! No matter your color season, our team has a high-quality shirt ready for you to add to your wardrobe. Check out our selections by season below:
Do you feel like your closet needs a refresh? Creating a versatile wardrobe doesn’t necessarily mean you need more items in your closet. By selecting certain staple pieces, you’ll be able to mix and match to create several looks out of just a few pieces. What are those essentials? Well, let’s dive in. Denim Jeans This one should go without saying. A classic pair of jeans can be dressed up by pairing them with a nice pair of heels or dressed down with some sneakers. Find a couple different washes in your favorite style; preferably a classic one rather than a trendy one, and you’ll have endless options to pair with these. Our recommendation goes to Levi’s®; another brand focused on sustainability and delivering high-quality products to their customers. T-Shirt Your everyday tee can go a long way in your wardrobe. It can be paired with most other items and can be styled more casually, or more professionally. We recommend grabbing tees in neutral colors like white, black, brown or gray. Here at SimpleTees we have short sleeve, three quarter sleeve and long sleeve options available in these neutrals. Check them out here. Trousers Preferably pleated, a classic trouser is one that must be on your rack. Pair it with a t-shirt and nice jewelry and you’ll be set for your next important event. Just like with the t-shirts, stick with the neutrals here and opt for a black and a brown for color options. You’ll want to find a style and fit that you feel comfortable in. Stop in stores known for their high-quality basics, like LOFT or Ann Taylor to check it out. Jacket A necessity for the cooler months. Look for a trench coat that will elevate your outfit rather than cover it up like your typical winter jackets might. Again, find a neutral color that will go with other elements in your closet. Take a look at the Gap, Inc. brands. Depending on your price range, Gap carries some options or if you have more flexibility with your spending, check out their sister company Banana Republic. A button down When you need to step it up from a tshirt, the button down is here to save the day. Take the time to try these on and find one that fits perfectly. Start with a white and add other colors if you find yourself reaching for it often. Thread & Supply Co. has a variety of button up styles to choose from! Black dress You can’t go wrong with a black dress. Keep this one simple and go for a shape that never seems to go out of style. If you’re looking to add even more versatility to this option, opt for a silk or satin material as it will allow you to pair it more easily with other items in your wardrobe. Express would be a good starting point on your search for the perfect black dress. Sweater Grab a style that you are most comfortable in. Keep in mind the goal is to be able to wear this with jeans, over a dress, under a blazer or jacket, so you’ll want to make sure you pick a color and style that will compliment the colors and fits of your other pieces. Check out a larger store for these so you can see and try on a variety of styles to make sure you have the best match. Nordstrom would be a great place to start. Blazer Made to make you feel confident and dressed your best. Whether you’re a working professional, or just need something to help dress up your outfit for a special event or night out, a blazer is your go to. Pick a color that will go well with your other pieces, especially your t-shirts and sweaters! Madewell carries a variety of different styles and you’re sure to be getting a high-quality item. Add these eight items to your shopping list and be sure to invest in high-quality pieces that you’ll feel confident reaching back for again and again!
The roots of the t-shirt extend back to the early 20th century, with its emergence as an undergarment for men in the United States Navy. Initially designed for practicality, providing a comfortable layer beneath uniforms, the t-shirt underwent an evolutionary journey. Over the years, it transitioned from a mere undergarment to a symbol of casual, everyday wear, making its mark on the broader fashion landscape. Enter Women: Pioneers in Redefining Fashion Norms As the t-shirt gained popularity, women played an instrumental role in challenging and redefining established fashion norms. In the mid-20th century, women began adopting the t-shirt as a versatile and comfortable garment, challenging prevailing notions of femininity and style. As the fashion landscape evolved, iconic women further propelled the t-shirt into the realm of style. From Audrey Hepburn's timeless, striped shirt elegance to the laid-back chic of Jane Birkin, women in the spotlight showcased the tee's versatility, proving that it could effortlessly transition from a casual staple to a fashion statement. Their influence reverberated through generations, solidifying the t-shirt's status as a wardrobe essential. The Rise of Women's T-Shirt Brands: Entrepreneurs in Fashion In recent decades, women have not only been consumers but also creators in the t-shirt industry. Numerous female entrepreneurs have founded their own brands, revolutionizing the market with a keen focus on quality, fit, and inclusivity. These brands celebrate the diverse styles and shapes of women, offering a broad range of sizes and designs that cater to a wide audience. Simpletees is proud to be a part of that legacy, as a business co-led by female entrepreneurs. We champion entrepreneurship for women. Trailblazing sustainability: Renowned fashion designer Eileen Fisher has been a trailblazer in the sustainable fashion realm. In 2015, her commitment to eco-friendly practices led to the creation of the brand's "Vision 2020," a plan outlining the company's path towards sustainability. Eileen Fisher's embrace of organic cotton and recycled materials has set an industry standard, influencing how t-shirts and other garments are produced. You can read more about our commitment to sustainability in our recent article The Shift to Sustainable Sourcing. Celebrating the Enduring Legacy The history of the basic, quality t-shirt is a tale woven with threads of practicality, rebellion, and empowerment. Women have been integral to this journey, shaping not only how the tee is worn but also how it is perceived in the broader context of fashion and culture. As we continue to embrace the classic tee as a wardrobe essential, let's celebrate the women who have left an indelible mark on its rich and diverse history, ensuring its legacy endures for generations to come. Traditional clothing production often involves resource-intensive materials like conventional cotton, requiring copious amounts of water and pesticides. Simpletees is breaking away from this unsustainable cycle by prioritizing materials with a lower environmental impact. Our brand is a proponent of organic cotton, grown without synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. All of our t-shirts are made using organic cotton. This choice not only feels good on the skin but also contributes to soil health, aligning with our commitment to a greener future. Soon our same versatile t-shirts will be available in new innovative, eco-fabric alternatives. We are exploring alternatives such as recycled polyester and Tencel. Why these? Recycled polyester, derived from post-consumer plastic bottles, reduces the demand for new raw materials and minimizes plastic waste. Tencel, made from sustainably sourced wood pulp, offers a silky feel while maintaining a commitment to environmental responsibility. With Tencel and other eco-fabric alternatives, we support the goal to reach net zero in carbon emissions by 2050 through efficient production. Beyond Fashion: Environmental and Consumer Impact Choosing sustainably sourced materials goes beyond just ecological benefits; it aligns with the demands of a growing consumer base that cares about the origins of their products. We recognize that consumers are not just buying clothes; they are investing in a story and a set of values. By prioritizing sustainable materials, we aim to establish a transparent and ethical connection with customers, fostering loyalty and trust. Responsible Manufacturing Practices Our focus on sustainability doesn’t stop at the materials we choose to source. Our team is committed to using sustainable manufacturing practices as well. We collaborate exclusively with suppliers and manufacturers to adhere to strict environmental and ethical standards to ensure the entire production process, from sourcing materials to manufacturing and packaging, aligns with the planet’s well-being.
